Williamstown Cricket Club - Junior/Underage Section update

10 Aug 2020 by Cameron Smith

Good Morning all.

The Junior Committee and I have been in constant communication with each other and working behind the scenes to endeavour to prepare the best we can in an ever evolving landscape. I have been to Junior Association meetings with the AGM being held this week to formalise preparations for the upcoming season. Since our last meeting the state has been placed into Stage 4 restrictions, which means – no formal contact between any parties, and no community sport. With this in mind for the next 5 weeks, and due to expire mid September, we have pencilled in a start date to pre-season once that time lapse is up. As stated thsi is mid-September with a proposed season start date on October 16th. This can change so please be up to date with forthcoming comms. We are unknown as to how much longer Covid cases can keep increasing and when the State Government will reduce restrictions. This is all dependent on community transmission. We may in fact go back to Stage 3 restrictions which will then have to be assessed in realtion to cricket training etc.

Registrations are due to open within the week, with a range of different structures which will hopefully appeal to each and every individual family. This season there will be no uniform cost implicated into the Junior and Underage fee structure, as we aim to retain as many members as we can heading into the coming season. We wish for everyone to play this season and replicate our programs from last season, so any Williamstown CC uniform will be accepted. It will be a very attractive and value plus membership this season. There will be options to purchase apparel on a need to need basis.

Our Underage Section will, at this stage, look to resume on the weekend as the last couple of seasons – first Sunday of November. Once again this will have to be continually assessed in accordance with State Government and Cricket Victoria and Cricket Australia guidelines.

Things are moving in the right direction for our club, and we are preparing the best we can. I implore you to get behind our great club and continue to be enthused about participating this season. Keep up to date with Facebook posts surrounding registrations and other items.

As you can imagine our sponsorship base has taken a massive hit this season, with cash flow amongst all businesses and households effected dramatically so if you are in a position to contribute in keeping our club at the forefront of cricket in Williamstown and surrounds then please enquire privately.

Lastly, it is unprecendented times that we are faced with. I wish all families who are associated with WCC and any others closely related to them all the best. We are hopefully closer to the end than we are in the beginning. It is hard and each family has been effected differently. Chin up and we will get through this together. I am more than happy to take phone calls to discuss each situation individually, or just to chat about things.

We are a family at Williamstown, so let’s stick together and support each other the best we can.

Thx

Cam
